Arts Council NPO funding decisions were announced this week with fantastic news securing a multi-million pound investment in arts and cultural organisation in Sheffield over the next four years (2018-2022). This included Museums Sheffield, Site Gallery and Yorkshire Artspace.

4x Orchard Square Residency opportunities – deadline 30th June
Making Ways: Orchard Square Residency Programme offers four x four week residencies in a craft unit on the upper level of Orchard Square shopping centre. This is an opportunity for artists, makers, craftsmen/women and designers to explore working in retail environment. There will be opportunities to engage with customers, develop profile, showcase your working practice, exhibit and sell.

Open Call Project of up to £4k and R+D funding of up to £1.5k for visual artists and makers from Sheffield
This programme has a rolling deadline, but please get your applications in by 12 July for the first Consideration Panel. Making Ways are seeking Expressions of Interests from Visual Artists based in Sheffield who want to develop new projects, or undertake research and development to help progress their career. The funding aims to improve the creative and professional practice of individual craft makers and visual artists, through awarding grants to part-fund their own projects.

. Roanna Wells – Tracing Process
Continues to 15 July / Tues – Sat 1am – 5pm at Persistence Works, Brown St, Sheffield S1 2BS
Tracing Process is a new durational project focused around the investigation of mark making as a visual expression and language. Using the project space as a working studio, artist Roanna Wells will create new work over the 6 weeks, offering visitors of all ages the opportunity to be present in a creative space and witness the action of subtle and repetitive mark making, with an invitation to take part and add their own marks to the final piece.

. Everything Flows – Exhibition
Continues to Sunday 3 September 2017 at Millennium Gallery, 48 Arundel Gate, Sheffield S1 2PP
Everything Flows brings together work by emerging and established Sheffield-based artists working with painting, sculpture, video, photography and sound. The works are each united, in different ways, by a sense of ‘flow’, from choreographed movement and kinetic motion, through to the fluctuations of narrative, and the movement of international finance and migration.

Prototype is the first in a series of unique live performance events, with music and moving image works contributed by nationally and internationally selected guest artists. Prototype invites audiences to encounter and enjoy visuals, music and performances and challenges conventions of screening, exhibition and display. Prototype is part of Everything Flows at Millennium Gallery and is curated by Joseph Cutts and Ashley Holmes.

Bringing together 17 practitioners from the fields of design, jewellery, ceramics, metalwork and sculpture, Ambiguous Implements presents a collection of contemporary works that playfully reconsider the familiar objects of our day to day domestic life. The exhibiting artists have employed and subverted traditional craft techniques, reframed existing tools in new sculptural assemblages, or given seemingly banal objects new functions and effects.
