A behind the scenes tour of the Hawley Collection.
Tour and Explore three areas of the collection not normally open to the public as part of Heritage Open Days:
- Main storage areas – including a special display and talk about the oldest trade union banner in Yorkshire and an opportunity to identify and handle mystery objects from the collection.
- Metrology – learn about the contribution Sheffield made to the development of precision measurements and see micrometers and vernier callipers made by Sheffield companies – Moore and Wright, Chestermans and Shardlows.
- Saw Shop – which holds the largest collection of saws int he world – every kind from “6 inch dovetails to “10 foot pit saws”, and unique tools for saw manufacturing.
Booking required: Two tours are available, one at 11am and one at 1.30pm each lasting around 1.5 hours.
