A screening and lecture in memory of Dr. Clifford Shaw, a dedicated cinephile who saw almost every film released in the UK.
He formed the Sheffield Cinema Society and wrote, researched and published a book on the many Picturehouses of Sheffield.
La Ronde is a hypnotic French film made up of a series of vignettes following the romantic entanglements of a cast of eccentric characters, each becoming involved with the next in a daisy-chain of intrigue and desire. An omniscient narrator presides over the merry-go-round of hearts won and lost in this 1950 adaptation of the play by Arthur Schnitzler.
La Ronde was one of Dr Shaw’s favourite films and will be followed by a memorial lecture in association with Sheffield Hallam University.
