A pioneering electronic music event featuring world-renowned local and international artists and makers. Celebrating Sheffield’s heritage as a city of creativity, technology and innovation.
Mark Fell + Okkyung Lee
Computer composer Mark Fell and cellist Okkyung Lee will present a new collaborative piece. Developed in Sheffield, the work will explore ways of integrating and contrasting algorithmic and improvisational processes as well as combinations of acoustic and digitally generated materials. Although recognised as leaders in their respective fields, both Fell and Lee are known for their challenging and unorthodox approaches to the vocabularies they engage, so the work promises a rare opportunity to encounter their first major joint commission.
Yaxu + Cárdenas
Algorave performance, with all techno generated live using a fresh Computer Club live coding device made in collaboration with Pimoroni. Yaxu is the solo project of Sheffield-based Alex McLean, co-founder of the TOPLAP and Algorave live coding movements, and creator of the Tidal live coding environment built into the Computer Club live coding device. Alexandra Cárdenas is a Colombian live coder and improviser based in Berlin and performing around the world, helping create live coding communities in Mexico and India. For this event the two Alexes will hook up two Computer Club live coding devices in networked synchrony, to collaborate on an improvised set of polyrhythmic techno.
