Working with women from Batemoor and Jordanthorpe who attend our weekly drop in sessions to teach them craft skills. The workshops will involve hand building processes of tile making, press-moulding and 3-d construction, alongside decorating techniques of relief modelling, impressed decoration, textured surfaces and glazing.
The women will learn the basics of firing processes and the clay and glaze transformation that occurs in the kiln. The wide range of ceramic applications and historical processes will be introduced through the extensive ceramic library of the artist, followed by examples of contemporary interpretation through photographs and artefacts.
The women will be encouraged to reflect on how ceramics have been used to record and commemorate historical events and how they could interpret their own personal/contemporary heritage in their craft designs.
