A Visual History of the Hairdresser’ blends research from Dr Sean Williams from the University of Sheffield with portrait photography by Shaun Bloodworth, Anton Want and Nigel Barker with historical prints from the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
The images will be accompanied by excerpts from interviews with Sheffield hairdressers, and a textual commentary on the culture of hairdressing from 1800 onwards.
The launch event will include a public lecture by Dr Sean Williams and a premier screening of an educational YouTube video on the hairdresser, made in collaboration with Tom Foster and Dr Graham McElearney at the University of Sheffield, The Avenue Hair Salon and Trends Wigs of Sheffield.
The exhibition is free and open to the public in Unit 17 at the Forum Shops from Saturday 21 May to Saturday 28 May.
